Quick overview
Submitting your MCom project correctly saves time and avoids rework. In short: get your synopsis approved, write the report in IGNOU format, attach required certificates, and submit either online (if allowed) or at your Regional Centre. Below you will find each step explained in a simple, practical way.
Who can submit the MCom project?
Before submission, ensure you meet these basic requirements:
- Enrolled in IGNOU MCom and completed required theory papers (as per your programme rules).
- Synopsis (project proposal) approved by your Regional Centre / Guide.
- IGNOU MCOM Project work completed under the supervision of an eligible guide.
Step 1 — Synopsis: first official step
Prepare a short synopsis (8–12 pages) and submit it for approval. A good synopsis contains:
- Title and short introduction
- Problem statement and objectives
- Significance and scope
- Research methodology (primary/secondary, sample size, tools)
- Chapter plan and references
Do not start data collection before synopsis approval — changes after the fact lead to wasted effort.
Step 2 — Do the research and write the report
After approval, collect data and write the full report. Follow the accepted structure closely. Use plain language and include charts/tables for clarity.
| Section | What to include |
|---|---|
| Title page | Project title, your name, enrolment no., programme, RC code, year |
| Certificate by guide | Signed statement by the guide confirming supervision |
| Declaration | Your originality statement (signed) |
| Chapters 1–5 | Intro, literature review, methodology, analysis, findings & conclusion |
| References & Annexures | All sources and questionnaires, test records |
Formatting & presentation — small details that matter
- Paper: A4, font Times New Roman, 12pt for text, 14–16pt for headings.
- Spacing: 1.5 line spacing; margins at least 1" (left 1.5").
- Binding: Hard/spiral bound as per your Regional Centre's instructions.
- Numbering: All pages numbered, table of contents included.
Step 3 — Plagiarism checks & guide certificate
Run a plagiarism check and rewrite any copied text in your own words. Keep the similarity low. Attach a signed guide certificate and your declaration before submission.
Step 4 — Submission: online vs offline
Online submission (if IGNOU allows)
- Scan the entire report (including certificates) into a single PDF.
- Make sure file size meets portal limits; compress if needed.
- Upload via the official IGNOU project submission portal and download the receipt.
Offline submission at Regional Centre
- Take printed, hard-bound copy with all certificates and synopsis approval letter.
- Submit in person or by speed post as accepted by your Regional Centre.
- Collect an acknowledgement receipt and keep it safe.
Essential checklist before submission
Common mistakes to avoid
- Starting before synopsis approval
- Copy-pasting without proper referencing
- Missing guide signature or wrong format
- Late submission or missing documents
- Poor data analysis with no clear findings
After submission — evaluation and viva
It may take 1–3 months for evaluation. Some Regional Centres may call you for a viva. Prepare short answers: why you chose the topic, your key findings, methodology, and suggestions.
Quick timeline (practical)
| Stage | Suggested time |
|---|---|
| Topic finalisation & synopsis | 2–4 weeks |
| Data collection & analysis | 3–6 weeks |
| Writing & proofreading | 2–3 weeks |
| Submission & follow-up | 1 week |
